I have recently discovered the beautiful domaine Caves Bienvenu during a visit in Chablis. Irancy is just 15kms westwards from Chablis, therefore I thought it was a good idea to explore the village, which has a high reputation in Burgundy for its Pinot Noirs. The AOC Irancy is a recent creation (2000), but this doesn`t mean that viticulture here is recent. Actually we can trace it back to the Romans and then, in later times, around the Abbey of Saint-Germain in Auxerre. Viticulture here was hard hit in the late XIX century by the Phylloyera bug, nevertheless some families resisted, like the family Bienvenu who makes wine here since the 1604. The property has been passed from father to son since then and today we have the chance to see the result of this resistance.

Caves Bienvenu is mainly focussing on Pinot Noir´s Irancy, possibly one of the world`s best expressions for this global grape variety, but also makes Aligoté, Saint-Amour, Crémants, Chablis and a wonderful rosé de Bourgogne. Get ready to be amazed by the beauty of their wines.
